Definitely NOT the most flattering picture of me, but you get the idea. Matt and I were talking about how I am often "barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen" so he snapped this picture last night while I was loading the dishwasher. It's funny...I think there are a lot of women out there that might be offended at what I'm about to say....but....I've never been happier!! I LOVE the idea of "barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen!" Well...let me clarify...I'm very tired of being pregnant. Those of you who know me know I don't make a very good pregnant gal. I'm tired and cranky and my feet are swollen and I can't breathe :) But I like the idea of me being the one to stay at home and take care of my sweet little family!! I quit my part-time job on May 28th this year and I am SO happy!! I don't miss it at all. I LOVE that I'm home with my family every day. I actually enjoy being the one to stay home, cook dinner, clean the house, wash the laundry, make Matt's lunch and take care of my little "nest". I was so frustrated when I wasn't able to do this b/c of my commitment to work. Anyway...I was talking to Matt last night and telling him that my little heart has been so happy now that I'm staying home all the time. I am truly thankful and we are amazingly blessed that the Lord provided Matt with the job that he has now so I can stay home with my babies. I know there are days that they make me crazy and days I want to scream, but at the end of the day, I'm so glad that it's my babies making me want to scream and not some rude patient at the hospital!! :)
So...anyway....my MIL took the girls out to the peach orchard this morning to pick fresh yummy peaches. When she picked them up, she dropped off a few peaches that she had picked on a previous visit. I thought...I'm going to make a peach cobbler!! I've never made one of those before. I found a simple Paula Dean recipe online (if you want it, let me know) and made my first peach cobbler. I gathered my supplies...poured a glass of sweet tea and played my Carter Family c.d. while Philip was having fun with his foam building blocks (that boy entertains himself better than his sisters ever did!!) Anyway...this is what I created...and it was YUMMY!!! (by the way...the two peaches with the store stickers on them were extra in case my 4 didn't equal 4 cups...but my fresh peaches were barely 4 cups so I didn't have to use the store-bought ones!)
I also made some cucumber salad!! My sweet husband has spent lots of time in our garden this year and it is starting to pay off!! We have had so many cucumbers this summer. I was trying to think of something I could do with them when my BFF Stefanie told me to make cucumber salad!! I have never made that. So, again, I turned to the internet and found a recipe to make. I used Cider Vinegar, instead of white vinegar though, b/c that's all I had. I put dill, sugar, salt and pepper and onions in as well. I really like it. I honestly think that I will be the only one in my house to eat it, though. I'm pretty certain that my kids will HATE it and Matt won't like all of those flavors messing up the basic yummy flavor of his cucumbers :) So, I'll be the one eating it all.
